A DNSBL (Domain Name System Blackhole List, Domain Name System Blacklist, RBL, Real-time Blackhole list) is a hosted list that uses DNS as the mechanism for a database lookup to a reputation provider (the host of the DNSBL, either as a blocklist or allow list), such as blackSMTP, to determine the trustworthiness of an IP, domain name, and hashed value (like a URL or file).

DNSBL functions and operations are defined by RFC5782.
